1960s Pierre Paulin F444 Armchair for Artifort
Designed by Pierre Paulin for Artifort in 1963, the F444 is defined by its suspended leather seat and pared-back metal frame. A deceptively simple construction, the leather forms both the seat and backrest, held in tension across the frame to create its distinctive low, sculptural profile.
This vintage example retains its Artifort maker’s mark and impressed production number to the frame. The leather is believed to be a later replacement, while the original powder-coated frame shows minor rust spotting and chipping consistent with age.
An iconic example of Paulin’s early work for Artifort, the F444 works as an occasional chair in a living space, bedroom or study, where its open profile sits easily alongside both contemporary and vintage pieces.
