COUP DE COEUR

A Belgravia Townhouse Where Heritage Meets Warm Modernism.

Coup de Coeur (meaning ‘blow to the heart’) is a beloved feature where we journey through extraordinary spaces and the minds of their creators. A portal to timeless design and endless inspiration.

“Focusing on quality and comfort, we aimed to create an effortless and relaxing home that serves as an understated backdrop to the owner’s life.” - Child Studio’s designers Che Huang and Alexy Kos

Standing on the edge of Eaton Square in London’s Belgravia neighbourhood, this Georgian townhouse—originally built in the early 19th century—has been thoughtfully interpreted by London based Child Studio.
The residence balances historic grandeur with a contemporary sensibility, where softly textured Venetian plaster, warm mahogany, deep emeralds and sculpted marble set an understated palette.
Inspired by early 20th-century European modernist villas, the design embraces the philosophy of quiet luxury, where natural materials and time-honoured craftsmanship create a space of enduring beauty.
Working closely with master artisans from England and Italy to craft bespoke furniture and intricate architectural details, the home speaks to the artistry of its makers as much as the history of its setting.
The designers took advantage of the soaring five-metre ceiling height, a bespoke mahogany cabinetry to shelve the owners extensive book collection on art and design, and as a nod to Karl Lagerfeld’s legendary Parisian studio. A cast-iron spiral staircase leads to a mezzanine level and rooftop terrace, a reminder of the interplay between old and new that is embodied in this project.
In the living space, mahogany panels and shutters envelop the walls, creating an intimate and insulated space. Various elements balance this richness, a custom designed mohair daybed, an assortment of art deco and modernist lamps and a 20th century African coffee table.
The dining room is a curated collection of rare vintage finds, a custom designed dining table that sits under a vintage 1920’s neoclassical North American dish pendant light with original Pierre Jeanneret teak chairs. Also featured is a wool and silk rug, and an 18th-century limestone fireplace that the designers sourced from France, that separates this space from the kitchen.
The principal suite, designed as a sanctuary of quiet sophistication, features a custom island bed with an undulating wooden headboard, paying homage to French Art Deco master Jules Leleu. In the bathroom, emerald-green Verde Guatemala marble is has been sculpted into a seamless, immersive environment.
Reflecting on the design of the Belgravia Townhouse, Huang concludes, “Focusing on quality and comfort, we aimed to create an effortless and relaxing home that serves as an understated backdrop to the owner’s life, with every detail tailored to their needs.”
