COUP DE COEUR
Authenticity & Provenance. Lo Scoglio, Byron Bay.
Coup de Coeur (meaning ‘blow to the heart’), is a beloved feature where we journey through extraordinary spaces and the minds of their creators. Our portal to timeless design and endless inspiration.
“Everything needed to be handmade, no matter if it was a well known iconic design or a beautiful market find. We wanted it to feel effortless and layered, the Italians are so adept at mixing styles and eras which feels both uncontrived and layered.” - Danielle McEwan, Tigmi
Italian heritage and local craftsmanship culminate in the picturesque, rolling hills of Byron Bay in a luxury homestay called Lo Scoglio.
Drawing on the location, the lush hinterland of Byron Bay, with homage to the owner Angelica's Sicilian roots, Lo Scoglio (meaning 'The Rock') has a distinct sense of place and purpose. Firmly anchored in the land, the property recalls bygone holidays of a villa stay in the hills of Tuscany, while still feeling quintessentially Australian and diverse.
Here, Tigmi Design Studio worked with the owners to create and execute the visual concept for the interior furnishings of the project. Tigmi curated, sourced, and designing custom furniture, art, and objects to create a luxurious but liveable space with a strong essence of provenance and history.
Tigmi responded to this brief by bringing together a mix of vintage Italian design along with contemporary and locally made artisan pieces to encapsulate the essence of a traditional Italian farmhouse, that harbours a curation of pieces collected over time.
Utilising colour and textures with layered details such as sumptuous velvet, gold bullion fringing, vintage tapestries and stripes, along with the patina of aged rugs, turned timbers, and original artworks to create an environment that is luxurious in its thoughtfulness and design, yet playful and comfortable, creating a warm and inviting space to welcome guests.
Each bedroom features its own unique story, unified by the choice of fabrics featuring individual design elements and one-of-a-kind vintage pieces.
Authenticity and provenance were the key to this project, approached with a light touch so that nothing felt too precious — allowing guests to truly be at home.
