Handwoven cushion upcycled from vintage Baoule cloth.
Baoule cloth is handwoven on looms in the Ivory Coast of Africa - no two are alike. The cloth is woven in 5 inch strips and then sewn together edge to edge to form a full fabric. For centuries the fabrics have been worn as wraps or outerwear by both men and women for special occasions, traditional ceremonies, community gatherings and festivities. The weaving techniques are passed from down from generations with production being a significant source of revenue for many communities.
Traditionally the cloths were woven in predominantly white and blue due to the prevalence of various indigenous species of cotton and indigo bearing plants, and in the 1960s the Baoule cloths began to feature brightly coloured thread motifs in pink, orange, green and yellow as a beautiful and fun feature contrast.
Double sided with zip enclosure along bottom seam.
