This lovely green Moroccan Beldi Jug was hand blown and crafted, made from local recycled glass using techniques developed in the 1940s. This green colour is made from recycled wine bottles, which are piled high in a 'glass mountain' inside the studio in Marrakech and shovelled into the fire as needed. Originally designed as a cup to serve tea, Beldi pieces are now available in various sizes and designs including bowls, jugs and vases.
The very last glass factory in Morocco still making hand-blown glasses was recently saved from permanent closure. Sixty skilled artisans now continue to make these simple, traditional tea glasses and bowls.
Know that any imperfections in the glass come from the breath of the person who made it.
